When it comes to accepting online payments, there are essentially 2 components - the Payment Gateway and the Merchant Account.
The Payment Gateway is a platform to process a credit card transaction, and the Merchant Account is essentially a bank account that the processed funds are collected in.
PayPal Payments Pro is a combination of these 2 components rolled into one. Payflow is the Payment Gateway and PayPal is also the Merchant Account.
PayPal also offers Payflow as a standalone Payment Gateway that you can use to connect to the compatible 3rd party Merchant Account of your choice.
In order to use PayPal Payments Pro as your payment processor, you will need the following credentials:
- Partner (Merchant Name, EG: PayPalCA)
- Merchant Login
- Merchant Username
- Merchant Password
- PayPal API Username
- PayPal API Password
- PayPal API Signature
If you have a PayPal Payments Pro account and are having trouble locating the credentials above for your account, we would recommend contacting PayPal and letting them know you are hooking up your website to collect payments, and the developer requested the credentials above.
