Member Reviews in the Admin

The new member reviews module provides an easier user experience, making it easy to manage incoming reviews submitted by the website users.

Review Filters

Efficiently manage and analyze reviews by filtering based on status, overall rating, date range, and keywords, with the option to email results for further action.

  • Review Status  - Filter by the status of the review.
  • Filter by Overall Rating - Filter by the review ratings of the review.
  • Search by Date Range - Filter by the date the review was submitted
  • Filter by Keyword - Filter by a keyword that was included in the review
  • Email - Filter by the email used to submit the review or the member who received the review.

Bulk Review Options

Streamline review management by selecting all reviews and bulk updating review status with just a few clicks.

  • Pending
  • Accepted
  • Declined
  • Waiting for Admin 

Review Status Database Values

For Developers: The corresponding values below are how review statuses are saved in the database.

  • Pending = 0
  • Accepted = 2
  • Declined = 3
  • Waiting for Admin = 4

Member Review Settings

On the same page, a quick link to edit the review settings is also available. This module allows users to edit the General Settings for reviews, profiles, search results design, and notifications.

This button will open the review settings module, which is very similar to the Post Settings section of the admin.

General Settings

Here are the general settings for the post type, allowing the admin to configure and customize the reviews.

1. Protect this Post Type?

This option will only become available if the Members-Only Content add on is active on the site.

If desired, update the URL of the post type search results.

Additional Settings

This section includes additional settings such as Display Map When Entering Location Information, Enable Results for Global Website Search and Trigger Webhook for Initial Save or Every Save

3. Display Map When Entering Location Information?

This setting will control to display the map or not. (Will be removed soon)

Allow the reviews to be part of the Global Website Search, Add-on is required.

5. Trigger Webhook for Initial Save or Every Save?

Set when a Webhook will be triggered when a review is submitted.

Profile Page Design

Move to this tab to set up the information regarding how the reviews will be displayed on the member public profile.

1. Profile Page Tab Title

Change the title that will be displayed on the front-end tab.

2. Profile Page Tab Order

Choose the position of the profile page tab by selecting a number from the dropdown. Each position will show the name of the selected post type. All positions with no post type assigned are available to choose from.

3. Number of Posts Displayed in Tab

Set the number of reviews to be displayed in the member's profile.

4. Profile Page Code

The header, page loop, and footer codes of the Profile Page design can be edited. However, we do not recommend changing these options unless it's handled by a developer or someone with knowledge of web development. Search Results Design

Edit and set up the search results settings for reviews in this section.

1. Search Results Page Title - H1

Edit the text for the post type title.

2. Search Results Page Sub-Title - H2

If desired, add a subtitle.

3. Search Results per Page

This controls how many total results will appear on a search results page by default.

4. Search Results Code

The option to edit the header, loop, and footer codes of the search results design is available as well.

5. Additional settings

Different options will become available when clicking on the dropdown.

1. Pagination Display Options

Select how pagination is displayed on search result pages, either standard, hidden pagination, or Insta-Load pagination using the Add-On.

2. Order Results By

It controls the display order of items based on a database field. Please find more information on How To Change Search Results Sorting Options here.

3. Enable Search Results Cache

Set to YES (recommended) to cache search results and load subsequent matching search results more quickly.

Set to NO to always query the database for all searches.

Note: This cannot be enabled if "Order Results By" is set to "Random".

4. Respect Membership Plan Search Priority?

Membership Plan Search Results Priority can be set up in the Search Visibility tab on each plan.

5. Sidebar To Use

Name of the Sidebar that will be displayed on the search result pages, either custom or default.

6. Sidebar Search Module

Choose which search widget you would like to display in the sidebar of search results for this post type. This will only work if in the Sidebar Manager the sidebar has the Bootstrap Theme - Search Module - Dynamic Sidebar Search widget. This widget loads the search widget specified on each post type.

7. Sidebar Position on Mobile Devices

Choose to display the sidebar below (Bottom), above (Top) the results on search results pages, or hide it only on mobile devices (phones and tablets).

8. Display Google Map Option on Search Results Pages

Selecting "Yes" will display a map icon at the top of search results pages. Clicking on this icon will display the search results as pins on a Google Map.

9. Start Results View In

Choose either list view, map view, or grid view if you have the Grid View Search Results Add-On.

10. Display Expired Posts in Search Results

If YES, will display expired posts on search results pages.

Notifications

The main difference from other post type settings is the Notifications tab, where it is possible to enable or disable the following email notifications:

Admin Notifications


Notify Admin when review submitted?

When enabled it will send the admin-review-notification Email Template to the Default Website Email address when a review is submitted.

Notify the Admin that a review has been responded to?

When enabled, send out a notification to the Admin that a review has been responded to.

Member Notifications


Notify Member when they receive a review?: Turning on this setting will send the recommendation-member Email Template to the member's email address when they receive a review. Please note this does not apply if admin needs to manually approve review.

Submitter Notifications


Notify the submitter of a review that it has been received?: Sends the recommendation-visitor Email Template to the submitter of a review after it has been received.

Notify the submitter of a review that it has been approved?: Sends the recommendation-accepted Email Template to the submitter of a review after it has been published.

Notify the submitter of a review that it has been responded to?: Sends the recommendation-submitter-replied Email Template to the submitter of a review after it has received a reply from the member.

Review Module


  1. Review ID.
  2. Actions drop-down. (Explained below)
  3. Date the review was submitted. 
  4. IP Address of the review submitter. It can be blocked if it ends up being a SPAM submission.
  5. Quick Edit options for the member:

This section will allow the admin edit or delete the review submitted:

  • Edit review: While we do not recommend editing reviews, the option is there for all directory owners to control what gets published on the website. 
  • Delete review: One can quickly delete any undesired review on the website. 

Review Details

The last section of this module includes the details of the review:

This would include:

  • Status
  • Rating Overview
  • Title
  • Full review
  • Name of the review submitter 
  • Email of the review submitter

From here the status of the review can be changed manually: 

If the status is changed manually, 4 new options will show up:


  • Do not send email notifications 
  • Email Member about this update 
  • Email Reviewer about this update
  • Email Member and Reviewer about this update

Member Reviews on the Profiles 

Members can leave reviews on profiles by clicking the “Write a Review” button. This feature allows users to share their experiences and feedback directly on the member’s profile. It will display within their profile and search results page.

Leaving a Review

To leave a review, visitors can visit the member's profile and click on the "Write a Review" button.

Which will open up the Reviews form:

Update Reviews URL

By default, the slug URL of the reviews is /writeareview but if the admin wishes to update this they can follow the instructions below.

To change this default URL go to:

Settings > Advanced Settings > Default Member Review URL 

The admin can provide a new slug for the reviews.

Uploading Images to a Review

If the option for Image Upload With Reviews is enabled in the  Membership Plan > Profile Page:

The user will get to a second screen that allows them to upload images:

How the Reviews will Display on Member's Profile

All reviews are then shown in the "Reviews" tab and the star rating is shown above the "Write a Review" button. Reviews are displayed allowing one decimal place for review totals:

Reviews will have their designated search results page /reviews where visitors can check all the reviews that have been submitted to the site:

Click to View Reviews for a Specific Member

As well, visitors can click directly on the overall rating to view all the reviews for a member, this can be in the Search Results or in their profiles:

It will open a new page where it will display all the reviews for the member selected.
