Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is a rule in effect as of September 14, 2019, as part of PSD2 regulation in Europe, which requires changes to how the European customers authenticate online payments. Card payments require a different user experience, namely 3D Secure, in order to meet SCA requirements.

Unlike regular card payments, 3D Secure requires cardholders to complete an additional verification step with the issuer. Typically, this involves showing the customer an authentication page on their bank’s website, where they are prompted to enter a password associated with the card or a verification code sent to their phone. This process is familiar to customers through the card networks’ brand names, such as Visa Secure and Mastercard Identity Check.

Transactions that don’t follow the new authentication guidelines may be declined by the customers’ banks. That's why Brilliant Directories released an update to meet SCA requirements.

Which changes can be seen in the billing area of the admin?

Processing Message keeps processing for several minutes and never take the payment or give errors.

Usually, this happens from the Members Section:

And from the Transaction History section:

The examples mentioned above are those cases with EU cards where the owner of the card will have to authorize every transaction, like an off-site payment gateway.  With these cards, there is no other option other than the member paying each invoice by logging into their member dashboard and click on "Pay Now".

Please keep in mind that site owners won't be able to collect past due invoices for these invoices from the Admin.

We are releasing an update to inform the Admin that it could not be collected because the card's bank requires manual authorization from the cardholder. As soon as it is released, we will update this article.

Below are different scenarios that explain how members will need to authorize their payment and they will see a 3D Secure page (See the image below), which is an authentication page on their bank’s website, where they are prompted to enter a password associated with the card or a verification code sent to their phone.
